R&D Production Section Manager

JOB PURPOSE

• To manage R&D trial lines, prototype builds, and material/process testing runs across all process stages (10 - 50 operators).
• To manage sample/prototype builds across the full end-to-end manufacturing scope (Layup to Packing) and test new concepts.
• To validate manufacturing feasibility (DFM/PFMEA) and optimize process parameters.
• To smoothly hand over validated processes to Mass Production.

MAIN FUNCTIONS

• Direct R&D trial builds (Proto, Sample, Pilot Run) across all manufacturing steps on schedule.
• Partner with R&D Engineers to evaluate Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and test innovative techniques.
• Validate new materials, molds, tooling, jigs, equipment, and initial process parameters.
• Establish initial line layouts, cycle times, initial SOP/WI, and lead trials.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES

• Manage prototype build quality, process stability, and trial output through APQP/PPAP validation.
• Lead Root Cause Analysis (8D, 5-Why) for non-conformities or process anomalies during trial builds.
• Determine baseline Standard Times (Cycle Time) and setup ERP data inputs.
• Formally transfer validated processes, lines, and technical documentation to Mass Production.
• Management, motivation, and development of R&D Operation Leaders and R&D Operators.
• Authority to plan and prioritize trial builds, and to stop a trial build when there is a quality or safety risk.
• Authority of supervisory guidance and performance evaluation of subordinates

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, IE, Materials/Composites).
• At least 7 years of experience in manufacturing, including at least 3 years managing a sample/NPI/pilot line team.
• Strong technical expertise in R&D trial procedures, process validation, and 5 Core Tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MSA).
• Hands-on experience with process parameters setup, mold/fixture trial runs, material testing, and technology transfer.
• Experience with carbon fiber/composite materials is a plus.
