Job Description

1. Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers, providing technical guidance, feedback, and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
  • Manage project timelines, resource allocation, and ensure the successful delivery of mechanical designs from concept to production.
  • Collaborate with other department leads (Product Design, Electrical Engineering, Software, Manufacturing) to align on product development goals and strategies.

2. Product Design and Development:

  • Oversee the mechanical design of smart home appliances, ensuring products meet functional, aesthetic, and manufacturability requirements.
  • Drive the end-to-end mechanical engineering process, from initial concept development, CAD modeling, and prototyping, to testing and final production.
  • Work closely with industrial designers to ensure the mechanical design aligns with the overall product vision and user experience.
  • Optimize designs for cost, manufacturability, and performance, ensuring products can be produced at scale without compromising quality.

3. Innovation and Problem-Solving:

  • Identify and implement innovative solutions to engineering challenges, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in smart home technology.
  • Stay current with industry trends, materials, and manufacturing techniques to continuously improve product designs.
  • Lead failure analysis and troubleshooting efforts, quickly identifying and resolving issues to maintain project momentum.

4. Collaboration and Communication:

  • Serve as the primary mechanical engineering liaison with external partners, including suppliers, manufacturers, and testing labs.
  • Communicate engineering concepts and decisions effectively to non-technical stakeholders, including executives and product managers.
  • Ensure all mechanical engineering documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with relevant standards and regulations.

Job Requirement

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on consumer electronics or smart home appliances.
  • Proven experience in leading and mentoring engineering teams.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and FEA tools.
  • Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes (injection molding, die-casting, etc.), and DFM principles.
  • Experience with the entire product development lifecycle, from concept to production.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a creative approach to engineering challenges.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate complex ideas to cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in working in a fast-paced, startup environment is a plus.
