Job Description

Job Summary

H. Nicholas & Co. is seeking an experienced Sample Making Manager to lead our prototype and product development team. This position is responsible for managing the complete sample development process, from engineering review and prototype construction to production readiness, ensuring all products meet customer, quality, and manufacturing requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Whitewood and Fitting Sample Making teams.
  • Oversee prototype development from engineering concepts through production-ready samples.
  • Review engineering drawings, BOMs, and product specifications to ensure manufacturability.
  • Propose construction improvements, cost-saving opportunities, and process enhancements.
  • Ensure all samples meet quality, technical, aesthetic, and customer requirements.
  • Coordinate closely with R&D, Planning, Production, QA/QC, Finishing, Purchasing, and other cross-functional departments.
  • Monitor project timelines, identify risks, and ensure on-time completion of sample projects.
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) and smooth transition from sample stage to mass production.
  • Develop and mentor technical teams to continuously improve capability and performance.

Job Requirement

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Wood Technology, Furniture Design, Manufacturing, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in wood furniture manufacturing.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory or managerial role within Sample Making, Product Development, or R&D.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Furniture construction and manufacturing processes
    • Woodworking techniques
    • Veneer applications
    • CNC machining
    • Assembly and finishing processes
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and BOMs.
  • Strong leadership, project management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in high-end furniture manufacturing is highly preferred.
  • Technical English proficiency is an advantage.
