Job Description

Job Description

The Senior Pattern Maker will play a key technical role within our product development and sample room team and will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, fit, construction and technical feasibility of our garments.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Work closely with designers, merchandisers and the sample room team throughout the product development process, from first prototype through SMS and PPS.
  • Create patterns from tech packs, design sketches, measurement charts, reference garments or customer requirements.
  • Modify and perfect existing patterns according to fitting comments and development feedback.
  • Ensure high standards of garment fit, balance, proportion, comfort and construction.
  • Participate actively in fitting sessions and identify pattern, fit and construction issues.
  • Analyse fitting comments and translate them into accurate pattern corrections.
  • Check garment measurements and pattern accuracy before samples are sent to customers.
  • Work directly with sample makers and provide clear technical and sewing instructions.
  • Follow sample development closely and check garments during the making process when necessary, rather than waiting until the sample is completed.
  • Identify technical or construction problems at an early stage and propose practical solutions.
  • Work with the design team to ensure technical solutions respect the original design intention.
  • Advise designers and merchandisers on construction, fit and technical feasibility when required.
  • Create and apply grading rules according to approved measurement charts.
  • Ensure patterns take into account the characteristics and behaviour of different fabrics, including woven and knitted materials.
  • Calculate and validate fabric consumption and support marker optimization when required.
  • Support the technical review of samples developed by our partner factories when required.
  • Compare factory samples against approved patterns, tech packs, measurements and fit requirements when necessary.
  • Proactively communicate with the design, merchandising, sample room and QA/QC teams to resolve technical issues without delaying development.
  • Maintain a clear, accurate and well-organized digital pattern library.
  • Ensure patterns, grading and technical information are properly identified and stored for future use.

Job Requirement

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of strong hands-on experience in garment pattern making, preferably within an export garment factory, sample room, buying office or garment development company.
  • Strong experience in creating and correcting patterns from first prototype through approved sample.
  • Excellent knowledge of garment fit, body measurements, balance, proportions and sizing.
  • Strong practical knowledge of garment construction and sewing methods.
  • Ability to identify the cause of a fit or construction problem and propose an effective technical solution.
  • Strong experience with both woven and knitted garments.
  • Experience with jackets, outerwear and technically complex garments is a strong advantage.
  • Ability to read and interpret tech packs, spec sheets, measurement charts, design sketches and fitting comments.
  • Good knowledge of fabrics and understanding of how different materials, weights, stretch, shrinkage and construction can affect pattern and fit.
  • Strong experience in pattern grading and size development.
  • Experience with professional CAD pattern-making and grading software such as Gerber or Lectra.
  • Ability to calculate and optimize fabric consumption.
  • Very strong attention to detail and high quality standards.
  • Ability to organize work according to development priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to manage several product developments simultaneously.
  • Proactive, practical, hands-on and solution-oriented.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Ability to work closely and constructively with designers, merchandisers, sample makers and QA/QC.
  • Good spoken and written English is mandatory.
  • Vietnamese language is required for daily communication with the sample room team.
