Senior Plastic Molding Center Mold Design Engineer

1. PMC Engineering

General position description

The principal task is to lead PMC Mold Design Engineering activities to drive results and strategy of new molds needs as well as molds copies, existing molds improvements.

This role is responsible for ensuring seamless transition of products design into manufacturing thru mold design by aligning with Manufacturing Engineering, R&D and other internal teams within Sonion organization. The ideal candidate combines strong technical molding expertise.

Specific activities:

•  Generate mold design, mold drawings and BOM’s (if necessary)
•  Provide technical input in the new product and process development of injection mold tooling
•  Support using expertise in troubleshooting (Injection Mold Problems)
•  Analyze and research Customer design proposals, manuals, specifications
•  Evaluate the Maintenance requirements of design or applications
•  Manage parallelly multiple projects (Mold designs)
•  Provide inputs towards design-for-manufacturability (DFM) and design-for-assembly (DFA) principles during the product development process.
•  Collaborate closely with R&D, Quality, Supply Chain, Production and other departments to ensure alignment and timely mold and mold parts delivery.
•  Ensure all activities comply with quality, regulatory, and safety standards (e.g., ISO, machines design, SBS, ...).
•  Collaborate with project/production teams within Molding area environment to help team to develop process skills.
•  Manage the documentation (Mold Design) flow.
•  Review of the progress of assigned task
•  Intervene if the timeline (Mold Design) is exceeded. Propose backup plan(s).
•  Define the potential problems and risks which may occur during mold design or duplication.
•  React in case of problems (both technical and organizational), proactively searching for external help if needed.
•  Contact Project Managers and PMC Eng’g Manager to set up/agree on priorities and technical solutions.
•  Asses the risk of new (Mold perspective) developments – technical and timing
• React in case design(s) are overcomplicated

2. Specific Responsibilities

•  Responsible for CAD and CAM activities
•  Study the part and product drawings received from Customer and/or Sonion R&D
•  Discuss technical aspects in product and mold development (with Mold Supplier if necessary)
•  Ensure proper output of drawings to meet requirements of tool Manufacturer
•  Correct/update (if necessary) documentation of existing production Molds
•  Report on the status of activities that employee is executing

1.Education:

• Required:Technical University Major Mechanical, mechatronics, Industrial
• Preferable: Higher technical education (M.Sc.);

2.Professional knowledge of:

• Must have knowledge of Plastic Molding Manufacturing
• Must have knowledge of Plastic Molding Process/Tools design and development
• Preferred knowledge of process of micro molding

3.Knowledge of computer servicing:

• Advanced in Microsoft Office
• Advanced in Solid Works
• Advanced in 3D CAD modeling

4.Knowledge of foreign languages:

• Required: English at Advance or IELTS 6+ level or equal
• Preferred: English at Upper-Advanced or IELTS 7+ level or equal

6.Professional experience:

• Mandatory: At least 5 years in an Engineering Position (Plastic Molding)
