1. Position Summary
The Senior Quantity Surveyor is responsible for providing full quantity surveying and cost management services from project inception to completion. The role includes cost planning, tender management, contract administration, and commercial management to ensure projects are delivered within budget and in accordance with contractual and professional standards.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Pre-Contract Services
- Prepare cost estimates, cost plans, and budget reports at various project stages.
- Conduct quantity take-offs and prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQ).
- Provide cost advice and value engineering recommendations.
- Assist in procurement strategy and tender packaging.
- Prepare tender documents, including BOQ, specifications, and pricing schedules.
- Manage tender process, including tender queries, clarifications, and addenda.
- Evaluate tender submissions and prepare tender reports and recommendations.
B. Post-Contract Services
- Administer contracts in accordance with contract conditions.
- Review and certify contractor’s interim payment claims.
- Assess variations, claims, and additional costs.
- Prepare variation orders and cost adjustments.
- Monitor project costs and prepare cost reports and forecasts.
- Conduct site visits to monitor progress and commercial matters.
- Assist in negotiation and settlement of variations and claims.
- Prepare and agree final accounts.
C. Commercial Management
- Ensure proper cost control throughout project lifecycle.
- Identify commercial risks and propose mitigation measures.
- Maintain proper cost records and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and professional standards.
D. Leadership and Team Management
- Lead and supervise junior QS staff.
- Review and check work prepared by junior staff.
- Provide guidance, training, and mentoring.
- Ensure quality and accuracy of deliverables.
E. Client and Project Coordination
- Liaise with clients, consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Attend meetings and represent the company professionally.
- Provide professional advice to clients on commercial matters.
- Maintain good client relationships.
