DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Supplier Quality Setup for Ramp-Up
• Develop and implement supplier quality workflows, audit checklists, qualification criteria, corrective action tracking, and performance reporting in line with the company QMS and customer requirements.
• Work with Procurement and Engineering to communicate supplier quality requirements, prioritize qualification activities, and establish clear approval checkpoints before pilot builds and production release.
2. Supplier Qualification & Development
• Assess suppliers in Southern and Northern Vietnam, Malaysia, and China through on-site or remote audits, technical reviews, and risk assessments. Provide quality recommendations for approval and requalification.
• Verify process capability, measurement systems, traceability, equipment readiness, and the ability to sustain quality at planned production volumes. Track development plans and audit action closure.
• Assess quality risks from subcontracted processes and sub-tier suppliers, and verify that required source approvals and controls are maintained.
3. New Parts & Production Readiness
• Coordinate First Article Inspection (FAI) and supplier sample approval for new parts, tooling, process transfers, or significant changes. Review dimensional reports, material certificates, and relevant coating or treatment test results.
• Review process flows, PFMEA, control plans, inspection methods, MSA, and capability evidence proportionate to part risk. Apply APQP or PPAP when required by customers or internal procedures.
• Confirm readiness through pilot lots and process trials. Track open issues, maintain approval records, and verify required authorization before production release.
4. Technical Control of Metal Parts & Surface Treatments
• Verify process qualification, batch traceability, monitoring records, and test results against applicable drawings and specifications. Align acceptance criteria with Engineering and customer requirements.
• Machining and fabrication: Review material identity, drawing revision, GD&T, dimensional accuracy, surface finish, burr control, welding quality where applicable, and dimensional effects of subsequent processing.
• Powder coating: Verify surface preparation, pretreatment, masking, curing conditions, film thickness, appearance, adhesion, and specified corrosion performance.
• Zinc plating: Verify pretreatment, bath and plating controls, coating thickness, adhesion, supplementary treatments, and specified corrosion performance. Assess hydrogen embrittlement controls where required by material and specification.
• Zinc phosphating: Verify pretreatment, bath chemistry, conversion coating coverage or weight, post-treatment compatibility, and specified corrosion performance.
5. Incoming Quality & Supplier Corrective Action
• Work with IQC and Engineering to establish risk-based inspection and sampling plans. Analyze incoming, production, and customer data to identify supplier-related defects and escapes.
• Lead containment and SCAR activities with suppliers and internal teams. Review 8D reports, verify root causes of occurrence and escape, and confirm corrective action effectiveness before closure.
• Support MRB disposition, sorting, rework, supplier returns, and quality claims with documented technical evidence. Coordinate corrective actions at supplier sites when needed.
6. Supplier Change & Performance Management
• Assess and control changes to materials, tooling, equipment, processes, treatment chemistry, manufacturing sites, and sub-tier sources. Coordinate required validation and approvals before implementation.
• Manage deviations through the authorized workflow with defined scope, traceability, validity, and closure. Support supplier localization and transfers between Vietnam and overseas sources.
• Maintain supplier scorecards and lead ramp-up quality reviews. Escalate recurring failures, prioritize high-risk suppliers, and verify sustained improvement in quality, yield, and process stability.
7. Documentation & Cross-Functional Support
• Maintain controlled supplier audit, approval, FAI, inspection, and corrective action records. Coordinate with Procurement, Engineering, Production, IQC, and regional quality teams; support customer and QMS audits.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent relevant technical experience may be considered.
Experience: At least 3 years of experience in supplier quality or manufacturing quality, including direct responsibility for supplier audits, part qualification, and corrective action follow-up.
Practical experience with suppliers of machined or fabricated metal parts, and working knowledge of powder coating, zinc plating, and zinc phosphating process controls and common defects (good to have).
Technical & System Skills: Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, material specifications, surface finish and coating requirements, inspection reports, and material or process certificates.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001, supplier process auditing, FAI, PFMEA, control plans, MSA, SPC, process capability, and risk-based sampling. Familiarity with APQP or PPAP where required.
- Practical ability to use 8D, 5 Whys, fishbone analysis, and evidence-based corrective action verification to address both defect occurrence and escape.
- Understanding of dimensional metrology and surface treatment verification, including the selection and interpretation of relevant measurement or test methods.
- Ability to establish and maintain supplier quality records, analyze performance using Microsoft Excel, and use ERP or QMS systems.
Leadership & Soft Skills:
- Ability to work independently in a ramp-up environment, prioritize competing quality risks, make sound technical judgments, and follow through on actions across suppliers and internal teams.
- Effective supplier communication, negotiation, and stakeholder coordination skills. Ability to communicate in Vietnamese with local suppliers and in English for technical discussions, audits, reports, and regional collaboration.
Other Requirements: Willingness and ability to travel to suppliers in Southern and Northern Vietnam and internationally, particularly Malaysia and China, as required.
