Purpose of the position
+ Ensure stable, compliant and cost-efficient operation of the wastewater treatment plant; proactively monitor, analyze and optimise treatment performance; lead troubleshooting and support continuous improvement initiatives.
1. Technical Operation:
• Operate all WWTP units (screening, equalization, biological reactors, clarifiers, sludge dewatering, chemical dosing) according to SOPs.
• Adjust operating parameters (flow, pH, recirculation rate, sludge wasting) based on influent load and performance targets.
• Ensure continuity of treatment process through proper shift handover and on-site resource guidance.
2. Monitoring & Process Control:
• Collect and interpret key process data (pH, COD, BOD, TSS, NH4-N, flow) and take timely corrective actions.
• Perform routine field tests and coordinate lab analyses to verify effluent quality against legal limits and company standards.
• Optimise chemical consumption and energy usage while maintaining treatment efficiency and compliance.
3. Troubleshooting & Incident Response:
• Identify abnormal conditions (foam, odour, bulking sludge, toxic shock, equipment failure) and implement first-response actions.
• Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for major upsets and propose corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
• Coordinate with maintenance and external service providers for repairs to minimise downtime.
4. Maintenance & Asset Care:
• Prepare and follow preventive maintenance plans for WWTP equipment (pumps, blowers, mixers, sensors, dewatering units).
• Inspect equipment condition, report anomalies and recommend refurbishment or replacement when needed.
• Support quarterly vendor inspection and ensure findings are closed on time.
5. Compliance, Documentation & Reporting:
• Maintain accurate logbooks, checklists and records for all operating shifts and maintenance activities.
• Prepare routine environmental reports, discharge records and data required for audits and regulatory inspections.
• Ensure all activities comply with environmental permits, national regulations and company policies.
6. Safety & Training:
• Apply safe work practices, lock-out tag-out (LOTO) and chemical handling procedures at all times.
• Use appropriate PPE and participate in safety drills, emergency response exercises and toolbox talks.
• Guild and support junior operators or environmental workers to build team capability.
7. Continuos Improvement:
• Identify opportunities to reduce operational cost (chemicals, sludge, energy) and improve reliability.
• Contribute ideas to upgrade process, automation and monitoring systems.
• Participate in cross-functional projects related to sustainability and resource efficiency.
8. Additional Tasks: to perform any other tasks and assignments as directed by the management from time to time.
• Good interpersonal skill.
• Able to work under high pressure, work in team or work individually
• Trained critical Environmental Competencies as requirement.
• Basic English for technical documents and email communication is an advantage.
