Position Overview 

We are seeking a Structural Engineer to perform analysis and design for aluminum structures (decks, railings, pergolas, canopies) along with supporting steel components and concrete foundations. In this role, you will prepare engineering calculations, build structural models, review shop drawings, and coordinate with project teams to ensure compliance with U.S. building codes, quality standards, and schedules. 

Responsibilities 

• Perform structural analysis and design of aluminum decks, railings, pergolas, canopies, stairs, and other specialty structures. 

• Design supporting steel components, connections, anchors, base plates, and concrete foundations as required. 

• Evaluate structures for gravity, wind, seismic, guard, handrail, and other applicable code-prescribed loads. 

• Prepare clear and comprehensive engineering calculations using Mathcad. 

• Develop and review structural models using RISA-3D. 

• Review drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and submittals using Bluebeam Revu. 

• Prepare design markups and coordinate with drafters, fabricators, architects, contractors, and clients. 

• Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting established schedules, budgets, and quality requirements. 

• Respond to requests for information and resolve design- or construction-related issues. 

• Perform quality control reviews of calculations and construction documents. 

• Support responses to permit-review comments and coordinate with authorities having jurisdiction. 

• Maintain familiarity with changes to U.S. building codes, material standards, and engineering practices. 

Requirements and Expectations

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field. 

• Experience performing structural analysis and design in accordance with U.S. codes and standards. 

• Knowledge of aluminum structural design, including member sizing, stability, connections, and serviceability. 

• Proficiency with Mathcad, RISA-3D, and Bluebeam Revu. 

• Ability to prepare organized, accurate, and independently reviewable structural calculations. 

• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines. 

• Strong written and verbal communication skills. 

• Ability to work effectively with clients, contractors, fabricators, and multidisciplinary project teams. 

Preferred Qualifications

• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification with the qualifications and intent to obtain a U.S. PE license. 

• Experience designing aluminum decks, railings, pergolas, stairs, canopies, or similar specialty structures. 

• Experience with delegated design and design-build projects. 

• Familiarity with aluminum and steel fabrication practices. 

• Experience designing connections and anchorage to concrete, masonry, wood, and structural steel. 

• Experience preparing calculation packages for building-permit review. 

• Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or other drafting and BIM software. 

• Professional Engineer (PE) license in Civil or Structural Engineering issued by a U.S. state is a plus.
